Real talk.  How is it that you are a grown up and you are often stuck wondering how to feed yourself when you feel hungry?  Heck, maybe you don't even know what hunger is anymore.  

There is such a heavy load of rules and regulation attached to food, it's no wonder we spend so much of our day trying to figure out what is right and wrong to eat and when.  

MommaStrong Fuel is here to break through those rules and regulations and return you to a place of self-awareness and friendship with your incredible and imperfect human body. 

Yes, it will take some education and some unlearning.  And yes, it will definitely require courage and patience.  But, it is possible here with us.  Welcome to a new way to approach nutrition and a new way to live inside your body.

Know Yourself

Let’s step off the rollercoaster of health and nutrition guidance that makes us feel like we’ll never get it right. We will learn to trust how we actually *feel* in our bodies, and how food plays a role.

Anchor Point 2:
Sustain Yourself

You can’t pour from an empty cup. Parenting gives us plenty of practice caring for others, but what would it look like to step into a role as a loving, reliable, boundaried caregiver to ourselves?

Anchor Point 3:
Show Up Every Day

What do we mean by the action of "fueling"? It may be food, movement, sleep, hydration. alone time, engaging in fulfilling activities, or even changing your internal dialogue.  Whatever it is, we will help you practice.

Refuse Restriction

Diet culture is the water we swim in, so it’s no wonder that we’ve come to see restriction as a ‘healthy’ goal. The reality is that restriction negatively affects our relationship with food.  We choose nourishment instead.

Anchor Point 5:
Challenge Expectations

What is considered beautiful or worthy? What are our long held expectations about how our body looks and moves?  What is our language around "good and bad" foods? We lovingly challenge these values.

It's strange to admit, but very rarely is eating joyful.  And when it is, so many of us are used to calling it "cheating" or ascribing guilt or a lack of willpower to it. We also know that many of us have experienced illness or food sensitivities over the years that have resulted in feeling skeptical about the ability to truly enjoy food without physical repercussions. We use this program to unravel the ways in which eating is actually supposed to be satisfying, pleasurable, sustaining, individualized, and stress-free.  It may take some time to get here, but the results are life changing when you do. 

We believe in the Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, embracing the natural diversity of body shapes and sizes, and challenging the idea that only certain body types can be healthy.  We also incorporate research gathered by the HAES initiative, which provides evidence-based information on the true qualifications of health that can be applied to how we fuel ourselves. 

For so long, nutrition information has relied too heavily on trends, fads, and hypotheses.  We support evidence-based and individualized nutrition recommendations. To meet this value, our content has been created by registered dietitians who are the experts in this field.  They are also passionate humans who are dedicated to finding ways in which they can help you attain functional wellness while also being a busy human.

We believe in nurturing long-term, sustainable behaviors around food and eating. No diets, elimination or deprivation required. We are not focused on weight loss as a final outcome, but instead on learning to fuel our individual bodies to feel our best and to then show up in the world the way we desire.

We believe in practicing sensitivity on topics that may be triggering for others, but we also need to create space for people to talk honestly and openly.  It can be hard to find that balance on the internet, but not in Fuel.  We use phrases like, "I feel" and "In my experience".  We ask questions and we challenge ourselves.  All the while, we know that everyone comes from different relationships and histories with food and we so we apply patience and non-judgement in every interaction.

Meet Our Registered Dietitians & Specialists

Hannah Sheehan Da Silva, RD/Dtp, MSc, CNSC

Hannah Sheehan Da Silva is a Registered Dietitian in Canada and the USA, currently located in Montreal, Quebec. In her 9 years of practice, Hannah has worked with clients of all ages and with a variety of health conditions and conducted clinical research on the role of the gut microbiota in chronic disease. Hannah’s main objective as a dietitian is to help people to fuel their bodies during times of challenge. These challenges could include cancer, trauma, or chronic disease, or wonderful but challenging times in our lives such as the arrival of a new baby or the hectic schedule of a busy family. Hannah aims to make nourishing yourself simple, enjoyable, and effective.

Kathleen Johnson, MA, RD, LDN

Kathleen Johnson is a Registered Dietitian and the owner of Halve Your Cake. She educates and empowers clients using principles of mindful and intuitive eating. Together, they create realistic goals and individualized plans to achieve them. She received her Master’s Degree in Nutrition Education from Immaculata University. Since then she has worked in multiple settings, including some time at Trader Joe’s and Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine and Digestive Center. Find out more about Halve Your Cake.

Nicole Myers, RD, LDN, CDE

Nicole Myers is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator with more than 10 years experience in the field. Nicole currently works in the greater Boston area as a nutrition counselor working one-on-one with clients, with a focus on diabetes, weight management, digestive health, pregnancy and chronic disease. Nicole’s passion for nutrition stems from her belief that the foundation of our health and wellbeing is significantly impacted by how we nourish our bodies. Nicole enjoys helping empower people to feel more in control of their health, as well as helping others deepen their connection to food.

Jya Plavin, MPH, CPT, CPPC

Jya Plavin is MommaStrong’s Community Health Impact Manager and a Certified MommaStrong Instructor. She brings over a decade of experience working as a public health practitioner and educator, focused on understanding behavior change within the complexity of our real lives, communities, and the broader health environment. After a difficult transition to motherhood led her to the transformative magic of MommaStrong, Jya became passionate about maternal health justice and supporting people who give birth through accessible, evidence-based fitness and wellness guidance. She is thrilled to be part of the Fuel team.

You will get access to all three nutrition programs, Momma-To-Be, New Momma and Momma as well as access to the closed Facebook group where registered dieticians will be available daily to answer any questions you may have.

This subscription does not provide a specific meal plan for the week but we will talk about meal prep and provide tools and information on a sustainable way to create nourishing, fulfilling meals for yourself and your family.

Our focus is not on weight loss. Instead we want to provide education about how to nourish your body through the different stages of motherhood. It will help you learn how to listen to your body and honor its signals and needs. This may result in weight loss over time, but is not our objective. Just as in our MommaStrong fitness program, we value function over appearance.

If you have dietary restrictions such as Celiac or any known food allergy, you will still benefit from this information. You will also benefit if you are vegan or vegetarian. This program will provide you with basic knowledge about general nutrition needs throughout the phases of motherhood. These principles can be applied to your specific needs.
